LinksGolf appointed Event Managers for Hampshire PGA 2008 Overseas Pro-Am
LinksGolf have been chosen by the Hampshire PGA as event managers for their prestigious 2008 Overseas Pro-Am, running for its 18th consecutive year.
“We are absolutely delighted the HPGA has entrusted us to manage their event”, said Karl Burns. “I believe this further illustrates Linksgolf as the premier golf tour operator in the Costa de la Luz.”
Monte Rei Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus and situated on Portugal's Eastern Algarve, will be the venue for the climax of the Hampshire PGA's 18th Overseas Pro-Am Tournament 8th – 15th March. The course is the first of two at the Monte Rei venue and only opened in June last year. During construction Nicklaus was a regular visitor to the development, personally overseeing the course's progress. His involvement and attention to detail said it all, as Jack will only give the thumbs up on a Signature Course when he has been fully convinced by the project and commitment of its owners. Jack's design philosophy is to let the environmental surroundings shape the holes, so they fit the terrain. He never tries to force an idea onto a piece of land and Monte Rei was no exception. His goal was to design the best golf course possible and who knows he may have created the best course in Portugal.
'I played Monte Rei at the beginning of December' said Hampshire PGA Secretary David Wheeler. 'Monte Rei's slogan is 'Redefining Excellence' and that summed up my visit'.
Fifteen teams will be taking part and will be based at the 5 Star Vincci Canela Golf Hotel, near Ayamonte. Professionals competing include defending champion Daniel Westermark (El Paraiso) along with former champions Ian Roper (Corhampton) and Andrew Cloke (South Winchester).
Teams fly out to Faro on Saturday 8th March and the other courses on the itinerary are Quinta da Ria, Islantilla, Quinta de Cima and Isla Canela.
