It's called 'Injaz'
"It is the world's first cloned dromedary," stressed one of the scientists, Nisar Wani, Center for Reproduction of Camelids, funded by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad Ben Rached Al Maktun.
"This significant step in our research program gives us the means to preserve the genes of dromedaries that are effective in the production of milk and in the races," he said in a statement the scientific director of the center, Lulu Skidmore.
The baby is called dromedary Injaz (realization). The scientists presented their birth as a breakthrough for improving the breed of camels in a region where it is widely appreciated and organizing camel races.
It took 5 years
To achieve this cloning, scientists conducted research over five years.
In 1998, the center reached a crossing of a dromedary and a flame. The animal resulting from that cross was called a "bed".
The world's first cloned animal was born in 1996 in United Kingdom: Dolly the sheep, which died prematurely at age six and a half old.
Since then, other cloned animals such as horses and dogs, but until now had never cloned a dromedary.
