Driver going the wrong way
This weekend the Civil Guard stopped a driver who, for more than one hour, created a situation of authentic panic in the A-49 motorway. The car was going in the direction of Seville, on the opposite side of the road, and at a speed of up to 200 kilometers per hour. During the course of these events the driver provoked three accidents resulting in several light injuries.

The first call alerting the police of the presence of the kamikaze was received at the 112 emergency number at 11,50 a.m. and was followed by more than 80 similar warnings from drivers on the motorway. The subsector of Traffic of the Civil Guard of Huelva set up an emergency center and sent a patrol to intercept the car, which according to witnesses was a Smart.
The car was first spotted at kilometer 122, in the zone of Isla Cristina. This is where the first accident took place, when a vehicle circulating correctly tried to avoid to the kamikaze driver. Two people were slightly injured as a consequence, one of them a pregnant woman.
The vehicle continued on its way without stopping until reaching kilometer 109, in Cartaya, where it was intercepted by the Civil Guard. The driver, instead of stopping, continued on her crazy trip, after causing another accident in which there were no personal injuries.
The woman continued, reaching speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour, and caused another accident in kilometer 98 of the A-49, when another motorist was forced to make maneuvers to avoid a frontal collision with his vehicle.
The Civil Guard finally managed to stop the vehicle in kilometer 79 at San Juan del Puerto, after it had circulated more than 45 kilometers on the wrong side of the road.
The driver, a Portuguese citizen 60 years old and identified as M. J. F. B., was arrested and charged by crimes against the security of traffic and reckless driving. The woman tested negative in the alcohol tests which she took.
She said in a declaration that she thought she was going to Portugal and didn’t realize she was on the wrong side of the road. But she had no explanation as to why she didn’t stop when ordered to by the Civil Guard.
