With an average production of 295,000 tons. annually, Spain represents the first producer of fresh strawberries in Europe and second in the world, after the United States. Of this production, 95% comes from the province of Huelva, which forms in its coastal arc the greatest concentration of strawberries produced on the planet.
The CAMAROSA
· Variety with exceptional climatologic adaptation.
· 60% of the world-wide production of strawberries.
· Production of fruit from January to June.
· Fruit of extraordinary quality and flavour.
· Good tolerance to climatologic conditions and diseases.
In an average plantation of 30 hectares in Huelva, 1.200.000 cuttings of strawberry plant are planted in October and covered with plastic to retain heat. Gatherers, mainly women, number about sixty per plantation, the majority of them originating in ex-Eastern Bloc-Europe or North Africa
