The Fastest Man on No Legs
South African runner Oscar Pistorius has finished second in a 400m race at the Golden League meeting in Rome. So what, you may well ask, what’s so special about that. Well, Pistorius was born without fibulas — the long, thin outer bone between the knee and ankle — and was 11 months old when his legs were amputated below the knee. He grew up participating in different sports but after injuring his knee while playing Rugby in January 2004, Pistorius made contact with the world of Athletics. He began running three years ago and nine months later won the 200 at the Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece. Since the start of his professional career, he has broken 19 world records and is the current world record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 metres sprint in his class. At the recent 2006 VISA Paralympic World Cup, Pistorius won the 100m and 200m race.
Oscar Pistorius is simply a world record holder and gold medalist with no legs.

Alinghi retains America’s Cup
Switzerland's Alinghi beat Team New Zealand by one second to retain the America's Cup, sailing's most prestigious prize. Alinghi, the first European winner and owned by billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli, clinched the best-of-nine series by five races to two off Valencia on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. His team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to clinch the closest contest since 1983 -- none of the seven races that began June 23 were won by more than 35 seconds, and the last race was a heart stopper with the closest win in the 156 year history of the Cup. Alinghi now have the right to organise the next event where, when and how they want. They have already chosen a Spanish yacht club as the challenger of record with whom they will set the rules of the next edition. This raises the possibility the 33rd America's Cup will be in 2009 in Valencia.
