Facial scans could reveal genetic disorders
The once-popular idea that you can read a person's character from their face could be making a medical comeback. In Victorian times, the science of phrenology - in which the bumps on the head were 'read' to predict personalities - was taken seriously. The technique was discredited in the 20th century, but now a computer system has been developed which will allow doctors to diagnose genetic disorders by looking at a child's face. It analyses the shape of the eyes, nose, mouth and ears to pinpoint the genetic condition a child might be suffering from.

Barrymore Walks Free
The entertainer Michael Barrymore was told yesterday that he will not face charges in connection with the death of a young man during a party at his home six years ago. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed there was "insufficient evidence" to charge Barrymore with any offence in relation to the death of Stuart Lubbock, whose body was found in his swimming pool in March 2001. Lubbock, 31, a meat factory supervisor, had suffered severe internal injuries, suggesting sexual assault. Barrymore, 55, a one-time high-flying television personality, maintained he had found Mr Lubbock’s body in his swimming pool and has always denied any involvement in his death.

Quadriplegic sailor, Geoff Holt has today set the record as the first disabled person to successfully sail around Great Britain - a 1,600-mile voyage he describes as his 'Personal Everest'. Holt left Southampton on 20 May this year, sailing every day that weather has allowed. He had hoped to complete the voyage in around 60 days, but this summer's inclement weather has hampered his progress and he has been weatherbound in several ports, causing his passage to take longer than anticipated.
