Car with explosives found in Ayamonte
Spanish police found Thursday June 21st 130 kilos (285 pounds) of explosives packed in a car that had been abandoned on a motorway near the Portuguese border, along with documents linked to the armed Basque separatist group ETA. The car, a silver Ford Focus estate, had been rented from a Portuguese car hire company in Lisbon last Tuesday. It was found with its original licence plates abandoned on the hard shoulder of the Portugal-bound carriageway of A-45 freeway (km 30) near the town of Ayamonte.

Monument to the Family
The City Council of Ayamonte inaugurated on June 10th the Monument to the Family, a statue over 7 meters high and 3.5 meters across, composed of four naked figures of the family embracing the genealogical tree.

Ayamonte’s New City Council
In what was seen by some as a surprise move, the Socialist party has formed a new City Council in Ayamonte with the Andalusian party, when many expected the partner to be the left wing IU party. This pact of government for next the four years also closes the door to the possibility that PA, PP and IU formed a three party Council at the exclusion of PSOE, something PP has been actively trying to promote. In the recent local elections in Ayamonte PSOE won 8 seats, PA won 4, PP won 3 and IU won 2.

Madeline McCann New Photo
A new photo of the missing four year old British girl Madeline McCann has been released by the family.
It is very significant because it clearly shows the blemish on the iris of her right eye, very important for her identification.
