America's Cup Postponed
The 33rd America’s Cup, originally planned to be held in Valencia in 2009, has been postponed and so far no alternative date has been announced. The two Ernesto Bertarelli-owned organisations - the Swiss Alinghi sailing team and America's Cup Management (ACM) - cite the legal challenge by Larry Ellison's Golden Gate Yacht Club of San Francisco as the reason. "The ongoing uncertainty around the conclusion of the New York court case leaves the organisers no choice but to delay the event," ACM said.

Fernando Alonso leaves McLaren
The official confirmation of what everyone already knew came this morning. Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso has left McLaren after negotiating an early release from his contract. Alonso is free to join another team in 2008, and his agent said neither party would pay a financial penalty. He joined the team this season on a three-year contract worth a total of 50 million euros (£34.7m).
McLaren and Alonso have had an acrimonious relationship this season and a team statement said that both parties had "agreed to move on". His departure follows a meeting between Alonso and McLaren whereupon it was agreed that in the interests of both parties it was best to bring the relationship to an end.

Around the World in 13 years…and a bit
Shortly after noon on October 6th, watched by a crowd of more than 100, a weather-beaten Englishman steered a pedalo up the Thames, put it on a trolley and pulled it across the Meridian line at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. For some observers, this was a vaguely surreal spectacle, and reassurance perhaps that some still uphold the national reputation for eccentric endeavour.
For Jason Lewis, however, it was the end of a 46,505-mile odyssey that took him 4,833 days and saw him become the first person to complete a human-powered circumnavigation of the world. Shunning motor, sail and anything other than his own muscle power, Mr Lewis has kayaked, rollerbladed, bicycled, pedalled, paddled, walked and swum his way around the world.
