US withdraws nuclear secrets web-site
The US's top intelligence official has removed a government web-site with captured Saddam Hussein-era Iraqi documents after questions were raised about whether it provided too much information about making atomic bombs. Up until this week, the information had been posted only gradually on public inter-net servers run by the military. In announcing the postings, the office of national intelligence said the US government had made no determination regarding the authenticity of the documents, their factual accuracy or the quality of any translations.

Air Zimbabwe fares jump 500%
Zimbabwe's loss-making state airline has announced a 500% increase in fares, making air travel impossible for all but the country's most wealthy. Air Zimbabwe, by way of explanation, stated that spiralling costs had forced it to increase ticket prices on all domestic and international routes. A return fare between London and Harare is now priced at 1,865,000 Zimbabwean dollars, or $7,460 (£3,982).

HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, has met the President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, as he and the Duchess of Cornwall begin their high-profile tour of the Islamic nation. Charles raised the plight of British death row inmate, Mirza Tahir Hussain, with General Musharraf during the talks in the capital Islamabad. He also met Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, whom he previously contacted over Hussain's case.

Mars rover reaches edge of crater
Nasa scientists are plotting the next move for their Mars rover which has reached the edge of a deep crater after a marathon 21-month trek.
The six-wheel robot Opportunity spent its first week at Victoria Crater taking pictures of the half-mile-wide jagged crevasse filled with dramatic cliffs which hold clues about the Martian past. |
